It has two different types of wood involved to make the strike plates. In that respect it sounds like two  separate hens vying for those gobblers' attention. It will usually upset any hens that might be attached to a particular gobbler. Hens love to fight other hens and where the hens go  Mr. Tom Turkey will follow

Gobblergitter Cedar Box

The old standby. No other wood says turkey call like cedar. It has been known forever to be about the best for making box calls. When built to my specifications, it responds wonderfully with the stroke of the paddle. You can let the rubber band do all the work for creating very soft purrs and quiet yelps. If you want volume just add a little pressure and a little bit longer stroke. (REMEMBER, THIS IS COMMON TO ALLL GOBBLERGITTER CALLS)

Gobblergitter Cedar & Mahogany Double Stroke Box

Here you have a wonderful choice of sounds coming out of the same box. Cedar of course does its job by sounding like an adult hen. Mahogany gives a slightly higher pitched tone and sounds more like a much younger hen. (WHICH ONE DO I WANT? THE OLD GIRL OR THE YOUNG ONE. DECISSIONS, DECISSIONS, DECISSIONS.) The classic cackle sounding yelp is also good from this combination box.

Gobblergitter Sassafras & Cedar Double Stroke Box

Who in their right mind would think of putting Sassafras wood in a turkey call?? I did. I acquired a very small supply of sassafras from a local friend and tried it out. To my surprise, it makes a great sounding call. A very rich tone and soft purrs and has great volume when needed. I have a very limited supply of this particular call so first come first serve. Of course, Cedar will always be doing its job.

Gobblergitter Mahogany & Maple Double Stroke Box

Once again here you have Mahogany sounding like a younger hen. On the other strike face is beautiful Hard Maple which gives a much louder yelp when needed with great cackle effect and soft finish to the stroke. It also gives awesome clucks and purrs.

Gobblergitter Poplar Box

One of my favorite woods to use is Poplar. The grain structure is consistent throughout the entire strike face which allows this call to be easily tuned to perfection. It gives great volume and tone with each stroke of the paddle. Clucks and purrs are very well achieved with this box.  As with all Gobblergitter calls a slight tightening or loosening of the paddle mounting screw with a Phillips screwdriver will change the tone and frequency emitting from the box. This may help a gobbler respond more readily to your calling ability. Keep a stubby Phillips in your vest. You just never know.

Gobblergitter Poplar & Cedar Double Stroke Box

This one gets used a lot for the same reasons stated above. These two types of wood go together like two peas in a pod. This is a great sounding call and also tunes very nicely.

Gobblergitter Mahogany Box

The beautiful Mahogany really stands out on this box. A sanding technique I use helps this call come to life with wonderful tone along with great yelps and soft purrs while also sounding like a younger hen.

Gobblergitter Red Oak & Cedar Double Stroke Box

Once again, I applied a no brainer to a turkey call box. Red Oak has a tight grain structure which not only looks beautiful, but it also performs quite well. Wonderful soft to higher volume yelps and purrs can be achieved with slightly different pressure applied to the stroke. Just letting the rubber band do all the work brings out the best sound on this one.

Gobblergitter Red Oak & Mahogany Double Stroke Box

Once again, we have the best of both: a slightly older hen and a little bit younger hen try to get attention from Mr. Gobbler. Both woods stand out with great performance and versatility.

Gobblergitter Cedar & Walnut Double Stroke Box

One of the most beautiful woods and wonderful sounding to make a turkey call is Walnut. Not as hard as Red Oak but the grain structure is quite similar. Great sounding cackle yelps and soft purrs are easily achieved using both strike plates on this call. High volume is also no problem.

Gobblergitter Walnut & Poplar Double Stroke Box

Absolutely beautiful and so easy to use. Both strike plates sound like adult hens which work well when calling Mr. Gobbler to a spread of decoys. Very soft clucks and purrs make this call work well when getting a close encounter with the BIG ONE.
